In fact, it’s worse than ever before. It's prevalent in the makeup industry, where children are forced into illegal mines to source mica that gives makeup it’s sparkle. It’s also commonplace in the technology and fashion industry. But modern slavery is hidden deep within supply chains. So we created custom makeup, headphones and shoes with hard-to-spot messages and sent each to top influencers / unboxers in each industry to take a closer look.

A closer look revealed sobering statistics about modern slavery hidden in the design of the product and packaging.

THE HUMAN PRICE
CNBC predicts that $1.1 trillion will be spent on holiday shopping this year. As you shop this holiday season ask yourself: what's the human price of the things you buy?

THE THOMSON REUTERS FOUNDATION
The Thomson Reuters Foundation plays a leading role in the fight against modern slavery. Each year they award a handful of companies with the Stop Slavery award, recognizing companies who take steps to eradicate slavery in their supply chains.

We created custom makeup that appeared standard on the surface, then sent it to influencer “Shameless Maya” (with over 1 million YouTube subscribers) to unbox. She was stunned to find facts and figures about modern slavery designed into the box and the makeup itself exposing the human price behind her favorite makeup.

During the holiday shopping season, we created custom headphones with hard-to-spot messages about slavery, and sent the pair to tech expert David Cogen, founder of the Unlockr, to unbox. A closer look revealed sobering statistics hidden in the design of the product and packaging. And when David put the headphones on, he heard from a real slave who’d been forced into the inhumane mines.
